Tories propose ban on foreign nationals in social housing

The Conservative Party has announced plans to bar foreign nationals from accessing social housing in England, framing the policy as putting "British families first".

The policy assumes scarcity - that the housing stock is fixed and every tenancy is zero-sum. But council housing shrank by sale, not by occupancy. The question the proposal does not answer is whether it builds a single additional home, or merely decides who may not live in the ones that remain.
