Labour suspends and readmits members on a cycle measured in months, not principles.

Diane Abbott has been readmitted to Labour after a year-long suspension. Ken Livingstone was suspended from the party in 2016 over remarks about Hitler and Zionism, then resigned in 2018. The pattern is suspension as theatre: long enough to look serious, short enough to avoid a split. The machinery treats ideology as a personnel matter - suspend until the news cycle moves, readmit when nobody is counting. It works because the party cares more about managing factions than settling arguments. The voter sees the revolving door and wonders what the suspension was for.
