High Court clears Chinese mega-embassy for London

The High Court has dismissed a legal challenge against plans for a Chinese embassy complex in London. The decision upholds approval for what would be one of the largest diplomatic missions in the capital.
Residents had contested the project, but the court found in favour of the development. The embassy will occupy a significant footprint in the city - a reminder that diplomatic premises operate under a distinct legal regime. Under international convention, such sites are treated as the territory of the sending state, shielded from the jurisdiction of the host. That principle holds whether the mission is modest or sprawling.
