Nigel Farage is set to unveil a migration policy today as Channel crossings surge, the Daily Express reports. The Reform UK leader has told the paper he plans to intercept every Channel migrant, stating "not a single one" should reach British shores.

The announcement comes as Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood dismissed comparisons with Spain's approach to migrant pushbacks, telling GB News it is "trickier" to tackle Channel crossings. Meanwhile, the Guardian reports that Restore Britain's Rupert Lowe has urged Farage to work together, with the Daily Express carrying Lowe's offer of a "peace pact" between the two parties.

The House angle: the word doing work here is "intercept". Spain's model - turning boats around in territorial waters - rests on a bilateral agreement with Morocco and operates in the Strait of Gibraltar, where the nearest alternative landfall is visible. The Channel crossing is a different mechanism: the boats are often already in distress when detected, and the nearest safe harbour is the one they left. Interception in open water without a returns agreement is rescue followed by processing - which is the current system. The policy question is not whether to intercept, but what happens after.

What to watch: Farage's full proposal, due today, and whether it addresses the returns question. The gap between a slogan and a standing bilateral agreement is where migration policy lives or dies.
