Farage floats El Salvador deportation model as Reform falls to third in new polling

Nigel Farage has told The Sun and Express he is in discussions with El Salvador about deporting foreign criminals to the Central American country's high-security prisons if he becomes Prime Minister. The policy echoes El Salvador's mass incarceration strategy under President Nayib Bukele, which has drawn human rights criticism but also credit for reducing gang violence.

GB News reports Farage is ruling out any deal with Restore Britain unless the party expels its co-founder, while a new poll cited by the Express and GB News shows Reform falling to third place as Labour and the Conservatives recover ground. The El Salvador proposal is the serious line. Bukele's model works by moving the problem offshore and making detention someone else's jurisdiction - Britain tried a version with Rwanda, which collapsed on cost and legal challenge. The question here is consent: El Salvador would need to agree, and the price for housing British prisoners would likely be high. The deterrent theory is that foreign criminals facing deportation to a Salvadoran mega-prison would avoid offending in Britain - but deterrence only works if the threat is credible, and credibility requires delivery.
