The Prime Minister is now outperforming Nigel Farage on social media reach, according to new analysis reported by the Independent. The shift comes as Reform UK loses a prominent supporter who urged Farage to "get a grip" amid what the Mirror describes as claims of internal civil war.

The Independent reports that Andy Burnham has taken the social media crown from Farage, whose online dominance has been a pillar of Reform's appeal since its founding. The unnamed senior Reform supporter's departure, covered by both the Mirror and the Independent, included public criticism of the party's direction. The timing is notable: Reform is currently battling the Conservatives for council seats while attempting to cement its position as the main right-wing opposition.

The machinery here is instructive. Social media reach has been Reform's asymmetric advantage - a way to bypass traditional media and speak directly to supporters. Farage built UKIP and then Reform largely on that model. If the Prime Minister now commands greater reach from Downing Street's platform, Reform loses its chief tactical edge. The party was never going to outspend Labour on advertising or out-organise it on the ground. It could, until now, out-perform it online.

The question is whether this marks a structural shift or a temporary bounce from Burnham's move to Number Ten. Prime ministerial accounts typically gain followers by office; the test is whether they hold them. If Reform cannot dominate the online conversation, it must find another route to the next general election - or accept that its current polling lead may not survive contact with a campaign.
