Yesterday the Prime Minister set off round the country to ask people what should be done about the cost of living, and almost everyone else in British politics spent the day telling him.
Start with the tour, because it was the day's biggest thing and it isn't a silly idea. The Mirror and the Independent both reported that the Prime Minister is beginning a summer tour of the UK to hear from voters on the cost of living and on being ripped off. A new government going out to listen is better than one that doesn't, and a party that lost touch with the places it used to hold has an obvious reason to go and stand in them. The same day produced the first concrete thing to come out of it: the Mirror reported a promised crackdown on costly subscription traps and rip-off discounts, which is small, real and deliverable, and that's more than most announcements manage.
